‘Hunters’ – David Chancellor
“Hunters explores the complex relationship between humans and animals, documenting the game hunting industry in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is the most comprehensive exhibition in the UK of Chancellor’s work to date, including many images exhibited for the first time. ” – Impressions Gallery 2014
A.Bliss were proud to sponsor the mounting for Chancellor’s latest exhibition in which he documented ‘big game’ hunters in South Africa over a 6 year period. The works feature a varied and detailed view of the pastime, including their trophy rooms where a breathtaking array of taxidermy is proudly presented. The sometimes shocking photos are a great insight to the hugely successful but largely ‘underground’ and closed community that operates and are involved in the industry. The show also features Huntress with Buck, winner of the 2010 Taylor Wessing National Portrait Prize.
The artist, after consultation, chose to mount some of the works on aluminium with subframes to free hang on the wall. The remaining were mounted on 5mm kapa to be fitted into frames elsewhere. The show will tour around the UK, details on the schedule will be published here when announced.
